APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Our department accepts applications on a rolling basis, however, in order to be given full consideration for admission and financial assistance, applications should be received by the following dates:

Fall Semester - January 15
Spring Semester - October 1

Please apply on-line at www.grads.vt.edu. Paper applications are not recommended as they may take longer to process and do not include our supplemental form. There is a $65.00 application fee. Your application will not be processed until this fee is paid. Admission decisions can only be made when we receive a complete application.

TOEFL scores: The university requires the following scores:
550 (paper-based);       213 (computer-based);       80 (internet-based)

GRE scores: No minimum GRE score is required, however, the scores listed below are guidelines to be competitive in our program. The entire application packet is considered in the review process.
Verbal: 500 / 800       Quantitative: 650 / 800       Writing: 4.0 / 6.0

The following documents should be submitted to the Graduate School at the address below:

• Completed on-line application and application fee
• Official transcript(s)
• Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test scores
• Official TOEFL test scores (international students whose native language is not English or do not have a degree from a US university)
• Financial Certification Documents (international applicants)
  (documentation may be sent with application or after admission decision is made; however, an I-20 cannot be issued without this documentation).

Institution code for submission of scores is 5859. There is no department code.

• Three letters of recommendation (on-line recommendation letters are preferred.
  Paper recommendation letters should be mailed to the department address below.)
• Official or copy of transcripts
• Copy of GRE scores
• Copy of TOEFL scores (if required)
